Tuesday, January 31st, 2023 - Tuesday, January 31st, 2023
00:00 at Finnish Meteoroligical Institute Dynamicum
We are happy to invite you to the Arctic Wildfire Preparedness Workshop on April
20-21th, 2023, at the Meteorological Institute at Dynamicum in Helsinki. The meeting
will be a hybrid event.
We invite you to help us in structuring information on preparing SAV shared arctic
variables for Arctic wildfires. We are interested in your local, regional and global
views and experiences and emphasize the relevance of observations and
monitoring. We hope for a dialogue with actors from different backgrounds so that we
can strengthen the know-how for preparedness for Arctic wildfires together.
The goal of the project is to develop longer -term preparedness for wildfire and to
produce a service that predicts wildfire risks in the Arctic region for the coming
season. Another goal is to co-define the Shared Arctic Variable (SAV) Wildfire with
an expert panel of global, regional, indigenous and local voices and interests.
Wildfire SAV is being developed in the ArcticPASSION project together with the
Arctic Wildfire Preparedness project which supports the local efforts in Finland.
The purpose of the workshop is to get feedback from you on the basic variables
formulated by an expert group, Shared Arctic Variable Wildfire, and further develop
them together. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will finance the Arctic Wildfire
Preparedness project in 2022-2023.
The workshops on April 20-21th are organized as hybrid events, but we hope for
on-site participation and encourage face-to face interaction between people from
different backgrounds,
Sincerely, SAV national expert group
