UArctic Congress 2026

at

The UArctic Congress 2026 takes place from May 26 to 29, 2026 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands (Setur), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, and the Faroe Marine Research Institute.

The UArctic Congress is a biennial event that brings together a science conference and key UArctic meetings into a single gathering. With the aim to foster contacts and enhance networking, the UArctic Congress welcomes institutional leaders, Indigenous representatives, academics, scientists, and students from around the Circumpolar North and beyond. Together with partners, policy makers, and other actors, the Congress strives to take the Arctic agenda forward by creating and strengthening collaborations that produce new findings and solutions for the future of the Arctic region.

The 2026 Congress themes are aligned with the Kingdom of Denmark’s priorities for its Arctic Council Chairship program:

  • Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation

      • Oceans

      • Climate Change in the Arctic

      • Biodiversity

      • Indigenous Peoples and Northern Communities

As a unique feature, the Congress incorporates the Ocean Conference, scheduled to be held in the Faroe Islands in 2026, with the aim of enhancing collaboration in marine science.

The Congress includes high-level plenary sessions, several parallel sessions, networking activities, and social and cultural events. It is an excellent opportunity for researchers, policymakers, Indigenous representatives, businesses, and students to exchange knowledge and meet and connect across the Arctic. The UArctic Congress 2026 also includes the 2026 UArctic Assembly meeting, as well as a UArctic Rectors meeting.
