Climate change is rapidly transforming the polar regions. This is particularly evident in the Arctic, with shifts in snow cover, sea ice, and precipitation patterns. These changes impact polar ecosystems and the lives of Arctic communities, along with European residents affected by altered weather patterns linked to sea ice loss.
Climate and Earth System models offer crucial insights into future climate conditions and weather patterns, providing information on temperature changes and precipitation trends both in Europe and the polar regions.
The EU has a pivotal role in mitigating polar climate change through emission reduction, active participation in global and polar climate agreements, and support for adaptation measures. This requires reliable and robust climate projections from state-of-the-art global and regional climate models.
The models provide the necessary information on specific climate indicators and data, in turn fostering informed decision-making and facilitating long-term planning.
The EU can strengthen European leadership in addressing polar climate change by intensifying efforts to develop robust and reliable climate projections. https://www.crices-h2020.eu/ https://polarres.eu/
